Reviews and Ratings

Craig Haynes - WSET3 FWS SWS IWS rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Pleasing rich dark berries, sweet cedar, chocolate, and vanilla bean scents announced a full body experience marked with supple tannins, light touch acidity and jammy flavours - reminiscent of cinnamon, cocoa, black licorice and warm dark berries.

Desert dry and with a weighty aftertaste, the cabernet sauvignon spent some time in barrels that had aged Canadian whisky yet its sweetness level was pleasantly low key. In my glass, this Californian’s aromas stole centre stage. Match this 15.5% abv red with comfort stews and BBQ. Enjoy.

Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

For lovers of Whisky and a dense long lasting finish, the Stave & Steel from California is a delicious wine made from Cabernet Sauvignon that is aged in a Whisky Barrel. This mix offers aromas of berry jam, dark cherry, mint, clay dust, vanilla, toffee, new leather and oak. The 2017 vintage delivers an opulent body, soft tannins and great acidity. The finish is smooth and provides long lasting flavors of black plum, strawberry, black pepper, leather, cocoa, vanilla, spices, pipe tobacco and oak. Enjoy!
Trent Mayers rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Whisky barrel aging of red wines has become somewhat trendy and it adds interesting aromas and flavours. This warm climate California Cabernet sources most of its fruit from warm sites in Paso Robles. The wine is dry and full bodied, brimming with ripe fruit - intense dark plum, blackcurrant jam, coconut tinged vanilla, raisin, and cedar. The Canadian whisky barrel adds notes of smoke and caramelized brown sugar that are not usually found in Cabs. Those make it perfect for your weekend BBQ, whether you cook red meat or sausage (and that sausage can be vegetarian).

Robust and full of flavour. Aromas of blackberry, sweet tobacco, smoke and caramel. Full bodied and smooth on the palate with medium acidity and soft tannins. Fruit is ripe and jammy, with a smoky finish. Enjoy with BBQ pork tenderloin.
Pam Hatton rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Deep ruby with jammy red fruit and sweet caramel on the nose. Medium bodied with fresh red fruit, light but dry tannins and notes of caramel. Dry finish.
