A zesty, vibrant Prince Country white wine made from Pinot Gris grapes. Aromas of white and green melon. Medium-bodied with mouthwatering acidity. Named cuivre for its copper colour that comes from leaving the skins in contact with the juice for 24 hours before pressing and fermentation. This adds more flavour and a touch of tannin for body to the wine. Serve as a chilled aperitif or companion to seafood.

Pinot Gris food pairings: seared scallops with tarragon white wine sauce.

Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

More incredible Pinot Gris from the county. This one has some really intense colour from the cold maceration on the skins. Pinot has many identities. It is one and the same with Pinot Grigio - prized for being light and versatile. Pinot can also be heady, complex, and sometimes accompanied by a tannic structure (this is really rare for whites).
The colour definitely puts this in the full bodied and heady category. Aromas are intense. It smells like dried cranberry, chalk dust, strawberry, barbecued lemon, cara orange, cinnamon, honey, bruised apple, and slightly autolytic.
Quite a heavy mouthfeel (some describe it as oily). Red delicious apple &skin, tangerine, lemon and lime, pear, lychee, and marshmallow dust.
Not for the faint of heart, but well worth exploring! Pair it with barbecued marlin.
Sylvain Segard rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

As the label foreshadows, this wine has a beautiful light salmon color and fient effervescence. Light intensity orange peels and stone fruit aromas. The palate shows more apple, citrus, and some bitter marmelade. Light mouthfeel and medium-short citrus finish but with lasting vivid acidity.

I would would love to taste this wine again in a year or two as it has the potential to gain in intensity.
Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Cuivre indeed! The Stanners '14 Pinot Gris pours with a brilliant copper hue and pronounced stone fruit aromas. Dominant notes include overripe apple, pear, apricot and pink grapefruit. This wine is dry, the body is a touch lacking for my palate though, but the acidity is crisp crisp crisp! Enjoy with pesto salads. Tasted August 2016. @sommsosa | bespoketastings.ca
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Crisp Copper colour, high acidity, prominent aromatics of stone fruit, and a lingering palate of chalky minerality, apricot and a hint of citrus peel. Tasted August 2016, @jonsteeves rated 88/100.
The grapes for our 2014 Pinot Gris are from our estate vineyard and one other Prince Edward County vineyard. The year 2014 started with a cool spring and summer, giving slow, steady ripening. September was hot and dry, allowing the grapes to achieve excellent flavours at harvest. The wine has a beautiful copper colour which comes from leaving the skins in contact with the juice for 24 hours prior to pressing and starting fermentation. This technique has resulted in a wine with added complexity, and a touch of tannins. It’s a wine style that dates back hundreds of years, but is now very uncommon. This is our favourite way of making Pinot Gris!
