Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Ann Sperling, of Southbrook, excels at her Chards. They have the guts to mature gracefully, but have a certain precision to them that make them a solid choice no matter when they are had.
Poetica is their most delicate and complex Chardonnay. It does have some buttery barrel notes, but it is pretty well integrated into the cool climate freshness that offsets that kind of opulence. Don't over-chill this wine!
There are some alluring malo-lactic notes of flake pastry and lemon curd. Nectarine, vanilla, and baked apple too.
Lots of minerality and acidity preserved in this wine. The flavours remain graceful and not overdone. There's some crunchy orchard fruit, lemon zest, more vanilla, and some ruminating autolytic character.
As it had a chance to breathe, there were more floral characteristics on the nose and some honey to the palate. Top notch Niagara!
Southbrook experiments and selects carefully the barrels that will be used for different products in their line-ups. If you have enjoyed this release from Southbrook, I strongly advise trying their Chard aged in Vosgienne French Oak. Stunning.
A respected Niagara winery that grows grapes organically, and makes a range of wines and styles, including this flagship wine. - Community Wine Reviews
