Reviews and Ratings

L.J. Palmer WSET 3 rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

I am always on the lookout for wine made from Carignan grapes and this 100% Carignan wine is a true delight. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and does not see oak. Deep purple in colour, dry, medium-full bodied and balanced and full of fruit aromas. Principal aromas are dried plum and dried red cherry and there is a herbal note. The wine is a bit grippy on the palate with a predominant taste of dried plum and cherry. Decant this wine for an hour or so before drinking to let the wine open up sufficiently. https://cellermasroig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/CellerMasroig_SOLAFRED_negre_ENG.pdf
Peter Neilson rated this wine as 88/100
Lori Kilmartin WSET3 - WSET3 Sommelier rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

You don't often see 100% Carignon in the LCBO so I scooped this up - not to mention the great price. Aromas of dried cherry and an underlying earthiness. Medium to full body with medium acidity. Unoaked so lots of fruit coming through on the palate. The tannins are very evident making this a great wine to pair with a food that has a bit of fat on it. That or decant for an hour to let them settle out a bit! Tasted March 2019.
Produced by Cellar Masroig, Solà Fred 2017 is a 100% Carignan full-bodied red from the Montsant wine region. Ripe prune dried herbs, berries flavours and leathery notes can be found on the palate finishing long with blueberry and cherry notes. Tannins are grippy. Decant for two hours and pear with a game sausage cassoulet. - Community Wine Reviews
