Natalie's Score: 90/100

Full-bodied and juicy Italian red wine from the southern region of the country. The wine's name is a nod to the rocks (sassi) of the Salento peninsula that provide great drainage as do the limestone soils. Aromas of fleshy ripe black and purple plums, spice and toasty oak. Pair with a grilled steak.

Primitivo food pairings: spaghetti and meatballs, vegetarian lasagna, chicken stew and dumplings.

Reviews and Ratings

Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Alluring stewed black fruit, leather, floral, spice, vanilla bean, and cigar box notes. I'm in love with the complexity! Tannins are young, grippy and developing, balance by a high mouthwatering acidity and deeply concentrated black fruit flavours. The price for quality is outstanding! Open bottle 1-2 hours prior to serving. Enjoy this full-bodied Primitivo (aka Zinfandel) with braised beef lasagna. Tasted May 2017 by @sommsosa | bespoketastings.ca
Wineboy rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Fantastic wine, with a fantastic nose. Plums, spice and chocolate aromas. A replay on the palate with a kiss of sweetness. Medium-full in power. The fruit slowly diminishes over a long finish.
Masseria Altemura Sasseo (2014) is a Primitivo red wine from Salento in the Puglia wine region. Sasseo (Sah-say-oh) is derived from the Italian word "sasso", meaning stone and refers to the abundance of limestone in the area. - Community Wine Reviews
