Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Syrah/Shiraz historically was known to the Romans as Serine. Whereas most grapes have been cultivated and bred through artificial selection, like domesticated animals, Syrah was found in the wild.
This Rhone is all Syrah, delicious and spicey.
The colour is glass-coating garnet, with some purple hints still present.
Aromatically, this wine has tons of complexity: pipe tobacco, pot pourri, damson, graphite, tilled earth. It has a coffee/chicory thing that reminds ome of Northern Rhone (probably, that is where a significant potrtion of this assemblage was sourced from).
The flavours are super concentrated and surprisingly juicy. Raspberry plum, and cherry. The spices have a lot of power to overwhelm the fruit, though. Pepper, coffee, and mace.
Superb wine amd one that will last quite a bit longer. It is especially spicey for a simple Rhone, but the quality of production is top-tier. Keep this another 5-8 years or put it with some charcuterie and impress your friends.
Saint Julien En Saint Alban, Vielle Serine (2012) is made from Syrah red wine grapes from the Côtes Du Rhône. Crushed black cherries on the palate and finishes with a smack of white pepper and earthy violets. - Community Wine Reviews

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
