Lots of mocha, dark chocolate and smoke from oak aging on the nose of this robust South African Syrah. A full-bodied, smoky South African red wine with aromas of cassis and black currant. Finishes with woodsmoke and dark spice. Pair with prime rib.

Syrah food pairings: slow-cooked beef ragú, mutton with mint and coriander, espresso and cocoa-rubbed flank steak, black bean soup.

Reviews and Ratings

Wineboy rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Is it my imagination or are more people drinking S. African wine these days? I insist on a cleaner style with S. African wine for me to score it higher - and this is that. Loads of berries and pleasing smoke and popcorn. It has a HINT of that leather note S. Africa is famous for. Finishes smooth with a lovely viscous mouthfeel.
I hear a prime rib steak calling me with this South African Syrah from the Simonsberg-Stellenbosch W. O. Rustenberg's Buzzard Kloof (2013) is smoky black currant and sweet spice and black pepper. The wine underwent malolactic conversion in oak barrels to give it is soft and creamy mouthfeel. More than one-third of the wine was aged in new oak barrel for 20 months. - Community Wine Reviews
