Smoky black fruit aromas on the nose; this is a full-bodied and brooding Australian red wine blend of 65% Shiraz, 25% Mataro (aka Mourvèdre) and 10% Grenache. Dark and deep with terrific concentration of flavour. Judicious use of oak gives this wine a lovely weave of smoke. Long finish. Pair with rack of lamb.

Shiraz Mataro Grenache food pairings: lamb Bolognese, beef enchiladas, barbecued ribs in sauce, hamburger, hard cheese.

Reviews and Ratings

Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Deep, dark and delicious concentration of aromas and flavours in this Australian red blend of Shiraz, Mataro and Grenache. Ripe jammy dark fruit is definitely front and centre with a backbone of warm spices, vanilla, pepper, leather, smoke, and mint lift. Medium+ acidity with some grainy tannins requiring decanting for 2 hours. The length is long on a fruit driven finish. Drink now but has potential to age 3 to 4 years. Excellent BBQ ribs wine. Don't be bashful with the BBQ sauce.
Tasted: February 2015
This big Australian red wine is a blend of Shiraz, Mataro (aka Mourvèdre) and Grenache. Old vines lend concentration and depth of flavour to the fruit. - Community Wine Reviews
