Bodega Francos-Espanolas is a great value Rioja Old-World Spanish red under $20. Fragrant aromas of mushroom, cherry, blackberry, mint and savoury spice on the nose, dry and spicy on the palette with flavours of sour cherry, mint and dried herbs and sweet tobacco on the palate. Decant one hour prior to pouring with a savoury blade roast.

Food pairings: roast leg of lamb, hard cheese, veal piccata, grilled steak.

Reviews and Ratings

Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

The Rioja Bordon 2012 is an exemplary wine from the Bodegas Francos-Espanolas, located in the Rioja Valley of Spain. This Reserva shows vibrant aromas of sour cherry, dried blueberry, mustard seed, pastrami, cigar box, wood burner, chocolate, parmesan cheese and oak. Full-bodied and complex, the Rioja Bordon is made from 80% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha Tinta and 5% Mazuelo, providing a long and refined finish. The first sip offers lovely flavors of cherry, strawberry, black pepper, pastrami, tobacco, smoke, cinnamon and oak. Great day to day wine. Enjoy!
Rioja Bordón 2012 is a rich and full-bodied red blend of 80% Tempranillo, 15% Red Grenache and 5% Mazuelo grape produced by Bodegas Franco-Españolas. Fragrant with fresh mushroom, dark cherry, dark fruit and oak spice aromas on the nose. Dry, spice with dark cherry, pink florals, dried sweet tobacco, chocolate and smoky flavours on the palate finishing long and spicy. Tannins are structured and fine. Bodegas Franco-Espanolas dates back to the 1890s, in the heart of Logroño, Rioja's largest city. Pair with a grilled rib steak. - Community Wine Reviews
