Reviews and Ratings

Courtney Flood rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Rich, dried fruit, fig, dried cherry, tobbaco, dark cocoa, anise. Woody and complex. A port characteristic. Very interesting wine!
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Second time tasting the Magician blend of Shiraz and Pinot Noir, 1.5 years after the first tasting. The Magician 2012 - Shiraz Pinot - deep ruby red, the nose shows sweet black currant, roasted beets, cedar, vanilla, and cherry notes. Dry with nice tannic texture, this would be a great wine to enjoy with grilled burgers or any BBQ beef. Tasted January 2016. 87+ points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca

First time tasting the Magician blend of Shiraz and Pinot Noir. Nose has dried fruit aromas, field berries and herbal notes. Bramble berry, cherry, with a hint of thyme leading to a medium length tart red fruit and nutty finish. An interesting wine from a well known Niagara on the Lake winery.
Tasted August 2014. 85 points. Matt Steeves - @QuercusVino
Lori Kilmartin WSET3 - WSET3 Sommelier rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

A very interesting wine with an unusual blend of 70% Shiraz and 30% Pinot Noir. My first impression was dried fruit and after researching the vinification method it should be noted that 25-30% of the fruit from each variety was allowed to dry in kilns for up to 3 weeks, followed by fermentation on the skins for 10 days.

The Shiraz definitely dominates with pepper and spice on the nose, but also some coffee and hints of cocoa. Very ripe jammy fruit, smooth tannins but enough acidity to keep things interesting!

Paired this tonight with some leftover SuperBowl Chili and it held up well with lots of body and enough fruit and tannins to make a great match!
Martha Kelly AIWS - CS rated this wine as 85/100 with the following review:

This unusual blend of Shiraz and Pinot Noir gives both dark and red fruit flavours, with dark spices, and an earthy complexity. This refreshing wine has soft tannins and a round mouth-feel, with warming alcohol on the finish.
Drink now, or keep up to 18 months.
Pair with grilled red meat.
Date tasted: August 2014.
Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 85/100 with the following review:

A blend of Shiraz and Pinot Noir. Medium ruby colour. Grippy tannins. Both varietals are well represented on the nose and palate. Red and black fruit, stewed blueberry, violets, coffee, vanilla, raisin, black pepper, nuttiness, cedar, toast, cake spice. An interesting wine.
This wine is meant to be enjoyed now. Dry.
Pair with pulled pork, game.
Tasted: August 2014
Tom Vigeant reviewed this wine as follows:

Intriguing nose : an almost nutty character, some dried flower petals, white pepper and tobacco. Peppery on the palate. Medium Bodied. Dry.
