Fresh on the nose with an attractive herbal, ripe black plum note. Nice bite and balance on the palate with a full-bodied weight and velvet texture. I don't know how they manage to achieve such balanced ripeness in this cool-climate Merlot, but ask not how they made this wine, ask how soon you will drink it.

Merlot food pairings: bacon-wrapped beef tenderloin, lamb & Guinness stew, venison with a chocolate and blueberry reduction.

Reviews and Ratings

Named for its heavy red clay soil and large stones, the organically and biodynamically
Redstone estate vineyard is perfect for maturing late-ripening varietals like Merlot. In a warm and long growing season like 2010, the result is a bold Merlot of exceptional concentration. Beautifully rich and ripe, the nose is dominated by dark fruit — think black cherry and plum — as well as chocolate. Blackberry and blackcurrant show first on the palate followed by savoury notes of coffee, cedar and a hint of smoke and spice from 18 months spent in French oak — 40% new.
