A remarkably long-lived Californian Zinfandel that proves the ageable nature of these wines when crafted correctly. In warmer vintages there is more eucalyptus oil that blows from the nearby trees and coats the grapes imparting a hint of mint, which was the case for 2006. There were heat storms that year so the grapes are riper with more dark fruit flavour. The acidity though remains high enough for dishes such as grilled rabbit and even salmon. Only 1000 cases were produced of this wine.

Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Ravenswood Dickerson 2006 vintage from their Single Vineyard Designates series. The Dickerson Vineyard is located on Zinfandel Lane on the west side of Napa Valley. Deep ruby red, the initial impression is fresh eucalyptus seemingly jumping out of the glass. Boom! Quite remarkable. It's loaded with black berry fruits, spice, plum, and a touch of chocolate. The nose and palate are equally complex. Dickerson Zin shows how well structured and balanced premium Zin can be. Elegance, intensity, and balance. Harmony. Enjoy with blackened salmon and cilantro mojo. Tasted November 2015. 93 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

We compared the 2006 with the 2012 and found it to be more concentrated, with more pronounced eucalyptus on the nose and an exciting palate with raspberry and distinctive eucalyptus flavours, showing hints of chocolate and mint on finish. Mouth-watering acidity makes it very food-friendly. I’d like to try this with venison.
Mymi Thesingingsommelier - Sommelier, FWS rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Ravenswood’s logo might be the most tattooed symbol in the wine business…
Since starting the winery in Sonoma County in 1976, Joel Peterson has amassed enormous critical acclaim, a dedicated cult following and has even been nicknamed the Grandfather of Zinfandel.
Always dedicated, tenacious and committed to crafting the best wines possible, he proved that with hard work and a great deal of passion it is absolutely possible even if in the early days, for a decade, the winery’s location was an old tin-roofed shelter, once a woodworking shop making oak toilet seats!!!
A unique attribute to Ravenswood’s success is a long-standing relationship with over 100 independent grape growers. Each vineyard is personally chosen by Joel himself according to their location, age, yield and special flavor characteristics demonstrating Zinfandel’s multiple facets as well as bringing out the very best from the various other varietals grown on those parcels of land.
The Dickerson vineyard owes its name to Bill Dickerson who purchased the small 10 acres of land in warm St. Helena, Napa Valley in 1971. With vines planted as far back as 1930, the wines created from the fruit of the Dickerson vineyard has been hailed by Robert Junior Parker as “the Heintz Martha’s Vineyards of Zinfandels”.
Dark rustic ruby red color with a touch of caramel, dates, vanilla, vegetative aromas and candied orange zest on the nose.
Good structure on the palate for a wine almost a decade old! Ripe berry compote, hint of orange zest, soft tannins, thirst-quenching acidity with a long smoky and spicy finish.
