Full-bodied, and loaded with oak on the nose along with black fruit aromas, mocha, espresso flavours. This wine was aged in French oak barrels. Perfect for a pepper steak. This is a robust red wine blend of classic Portuguese grapes: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca and Touriga National. Decant 1-2 hours.

Food pairings: meat lover's pizza, hard cheeses, rare grilled steak.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

From Portugal's historical Douro region, a World Heritage Site, a blend of Tinta Roriz 45%, Touriga Franca 40% and Touriga Nacional 15%. Fragrant with ripe dark berries and plums, repeated on the full-bodied palate, with hints of floral violet and dried herbs. Full-bodied, smooth and velvety. Enjoy with hearty winter casseroles, hard cheeses. Super value at this price!
Tasted Jan. 2017
Soils for the Douro are mostly slate and shale. The area is also known for its very cold winters and blistering summers . Like the weather and geological make up of the area, this red wine is robust. Frontaria (2014) is a red wine blend of 40% Tinta Roriz, 40% Touriga Franca and 20% Touriga National. You will need to decant this wine for about two hours prior to serving. - Community Wine Reviews
