This northern Italian red wine from Mezzane di Sotto is charred wood, smoke and blackened cassis on the nose and palate. Full-bodied and fairly smoke. Pair with darkly grilled meats.

Reviews and Ratings

Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

What a wonderful gem! I thoroughly enjoyed tasting this gorgeous deeply concentrated ruby red gem. From fire contact with the eyes and nose, i fell in love. Made with Traditional local Veronese fruit Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara, from South exposed vineyards grown at 300m elevation. Winemaker notes that the wine was vinified combined with a small selection of late harvest fruit which were double-fermented. This IGT resulted in a rich and supple wine with integrated fruit and tannins. Declared alcohol at 13% ABV. Notes of mocha, dark chocolate, ripe cherry, ripe field blackberry, and ripe fig. Paired well with nachos, thin crust pizza with caramelized onions and an antipasto platter of Italian salumi and dried fruit. Tasted Jan 2017. Rated 91/100. Great value. Buy by the case.
Thanks to its particular and careful elaboration it offers intense and complex scents which vary from ripe fruit to aromatic herbs, from spices to bitter cocoa, to end in mouth long and dry.
Grapes, picked in the first days of harvest, are fermented at temperatures allowing to raise the wine’s structure.
When, after approximately a week, the first fermentation is over, grapes picked in the last days of harvest are added.
The second fermentation is carried out at low temperatures and gives this wine its peculiar aromatic quality.
