Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

The deepest darkest violet in the glass, you know you’re in for a wine journey, and it’s just beginning. Phantom Creek Estate Becker Vineyard Cuvée No 27 2019 is a dry, full-bodied and robust red wine blend of 55% Cabernet Franc, 28% Merlot, 9% Carmenère with the balance in Syrah, aged 20 months in French oak barrels (50% new). Right now, the wine is showing crushed dark raspberry, black currant, dark chocolate, bramble leaf, underbrush, menthol, grilled herbs fresh and spicy on the palate, but it’s difficult to know where this robust, spicy, chewy and vibrant red wine blend with fine-grained, rich and chewy tannins will go to next. In fact, it’s intriguing. Give it another year or two in bottle to mellow, marry and become more savoury, then decant it for two hours and pour it with a well-marbled, juicy prime rib roast.

Becker vineyard is located on the upper terrace of the Black Sage Bench and was part of the pioneering Becker Project developed in 1977 to demonstrate that Vitis vinifera would do well in British Columbia. In 1993, the vineyard was replanted to Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon because of the vineyard’s potential for late-ripening, black-skinned grape varieties. Tasted January 2023.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
