A robust Australian red wine made from the iconic Shiraz grape. Penfolds has a long, august lineage of winemaking in the country. Aromas of dark fruit and smoke. Pair with braised short rib.

Reviews and Ratings

Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

The 2004 vintage of Penfolds Magill Estate Shiraz is a showstopper and evidence of a great growing season coupled with impeccable craftsmanship. It is a single vineyard production and quite significantly the grapes are harvested from the original Penfolds 5.2 ha vineyard at Magill (established in 1844). It should be noted that some parcels of Shiraz from the Magill Estate make the cut to be added to final blend for Penfolds Grange in some vintages. There is a great concentration of dark fruit on the nose with cinnamon and cloves - on the palate - coffee, dark chocolate, blackberry, blueberry, plum, prune and spicy oak, this Shiraz has an incredibly balanced structure, silky tannins and elegant layers. The mouthfeel is luscious with evidence of maturation in both new French and American oak and offers an exquisite long, spicy dark fruit finish.
