Savoury, meaty and juicy BC Cabernet Franc without a trace of bell pepper or herbal notes. Full-bodied and smooth with layers of fleshy black plum and dark spice. Pair with lamb. Highly recommended.

Reviews and Ratings

Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This medium-bodied red wine is medium ruby colour with a fresh nose of red berries, floral, baking spices and a lift of mint. The palate is has a nice backbone of vanilla, pepper and fresh cherries. Some grainy youthful tannins and medium+ cleansing acidity. Very nice expression of Cabernet Franc. 14.8%abv but I didn't taste the heat. Pair with roasted game meat or rack of lamb with mint sauce.
Tasted: October 2015
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

A wonderful vintage of a wonderful wine. This Cab Franc offers fantastic fruit, texture, aromatics, and palate. Rich red berry and blackberry, ripe plum, black sage, savoury, roasted beets. Yum! Medium-bodied, well-structured, silky tannins, well-balanced and integrated alcohol. Tasted Jan 2017. Rated 91/100. Fantastic.
Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

A fine expression of Cab Franc hailing from the Okanagan Valley in BC. Mesmerizing black plum, cassis, spice, and graphite and chalky minerality aromas draw you in. The palate shows succulent high acid notes aside moderate tannins, a satin mouthfeel and ripe juicy blackberry, plum, leather, and anise flavours. Enjoy this full-bodied Cab Fr with a prime rib roast. Tasted Jan 2017 - @sommsosa | co-owner of bepsoketastings.ca
Terry Jeans - Certified S rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Purple hues, indicating it is still a young wine, with ripe dark fruit, earthy notes. Complex and intense, with an indication of high alcohol. Savoury and rich mouthfeel, with a long intense finish and chewy tannins. Likely to age well and should let it breath a couple of hours before drinking.
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Painted Rock's Cabernet Franc is a deep ruby red, with plum, black berry, black currant, cedar, and scorched earth on the nose. Full bodied and smooth on the palate, with a long sweet dark fruit, black cherry, and cedar finish. Fine tannins linger reminding you that this big wine has the structure to let it age gracefully for several years. A fine example of BC Cabernet Franc. Drink 2016 to 2022. 90+ points. Tasted October 2015. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Lynn van der Linde - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Bright garnet in the glass, with aromas of cured meats, eucalyptus and a hint of floral notes, firm tannins and a long spicy finish - perfect with lamb dishes.
Jane LeFresne rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Painted Rock wines are wonderfully drinkable for having almost 15 per cent alcohol. The Cabernet Franc is no different.

Violet, bell pepper and cherry are the dominate aromas. With hints of raspberry.

Raspberry and sour cherry flavours with great acidity and tannins.

Try this with roasted meats and even add a splash to your stew or chilli. A great wine to warm you up during those cold Canadian winter nights.
Sean O'Regan - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Deep ruby/purple, currant, cherry, earthy, toasted oak, chocolate and herb notes on the nose. Medium full body, savory with currant, cherry, herb notes and toasty oak spice. Juicy acidity and fine grippy tannins on the medium warm finish. Decant or cellar a few years.
Tasted Oct 2015.
On the nose this wine entices you into the glass with it's fresh, bright aromas of cassis, black plum, baking spices, rosemary, capsicum and smoky notes. Serious complexity with more spice, pepper and vegetal notes on the palate followed by fresh black plums, cherries and blackberries, with well balanced, high acidity and chalky tannins that continue to linger. A solid addition to the Painted Rock lineup.

Our first ever single varietal Cabernet Franc hung on the vines an extra 20 days to ensure ripeness, complexity and intensity in the grape. The grapes were then macerated for 30 days to extract colour and flavour, followed by 18 months in 30% New French Oak and 70% second fill French Oak.
