This youthful, vibrant Spanish red wine has been recently bottled and has no oak treatment. The 2015 Pago de Valdoneje is very typical of the region's warm 2015 vintage. Intense flavours and lots of black fruit depth. Pair with pepperoni pizza.

Mencia food pairings: lamb stew, sausage cassoulet, hamburgers.

Reviews and Ratings

Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Old vines means they have dug deep to pull an impressive minerality into the black briar, kirsch, with a touch of licorice. So yummy with a gorgeous brimming acidity. Crushed flowers round out the finish. The value is incredible with this wine. 91 points. (www.ottawawinejournal.com)
Perry rated this wine as 89/100
Stephen Andrews reviewed this wine as follows:

Tasted July 10th 2017. Colour pale medium red. Thick legs. Aromas, blackberries, liquorice, earth, balsamic, mint. Taste dry, fruity firm palate, lots of depth, nice balance very fine tannins. I like this wine. It has flavour and it matched wonderfully with my chorizo sausage fire roasted tomato pasta dish topped with Parmesan cheese. And such a good price for value.
Pago De Valdoneje (2015) comes from Vinos Valtuille, a small boutique winery owned by the Garcia Alba family in the Bierzo wine region. The 30-acre winery in Mencia wine grapes extends from the small village of Valtuille de Abajo to the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route. Vinos Valtuille was founded in 1999, but the vine-growing and winemaking traditions of its ancestors date back to 1910. - Community Wine Reviews
