This wine really needs some serious time to unwind: it's wound up tighter than a cobra right now. Lots of black fruit and toasty oak with firm tannins on the palate. Beautifully structured with deep concentration. Pair with rare meats. Decant 2 hours. This is the convenient half bottle size. Finishes with espresso, leather, spice. Pair with Florentine steaks. This Italian red wine classic Superiore Tenuta dell'Ornellaia has a huge, dense texture and weight. Excellent balance, length and depth.

Food pairings: rack of lamb, roasted lamb shanks in red wine sauce, crown pork roast.

Reviews and Ratings

Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Robust, grippy and tough to crack upfront. Aromas are pronounced with notes of allspice, dried berries, and black tea. Flavours are earthy and savoury with a clean cranberry and spice notes. Fruit concentration on the palate seems to be underdeveloped or severely lacking. Only with age can we find out. Nonetheless, let it breathe for a couple hours and it totally develops in the glass. Do age through 2025-2028 though because the tannins are sky high. Pair with beef tenderloin roast. Tasted Nov 2016 - @sommsosa | bespoketastings.ca
This is a nice half-bottle (375 ml) to enjoy on its own, but only after cellaring for about five years. Orneillia 2013 needs time, but promises a tasty treat to pair with a rare filet mignon. - Community Wine Reviews
