A Bordeaux-style, spicy full-bodied red from the hot and dry Lodi wine region with rich raspberry, black cherry, dark plum, dark chocolate and smoky vanilla flavours lingering on the palate. So good now, particularly at less than $20. Mostly Merlot from 181 vine stock from Pomerol, Bordeaux.

Merlot food pairings: grilled pork chops, pepper steak, hard cheeses.

Reviews and Ratings

Linda Mertes WSET 2 rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

A full-bodied Merlot from Lodi, California that has aromas of black cherry and other ripe black berries. Mild tannins and with dark plum on the palate. Pair with roasted pork and poultry and BBQ. The smoothness of this wine will appeal to a wide variety of palates.
Carolyn Hetke rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Spicy red plum and sandalwood open on the nose with dried red fruit showing on the palate. Smooth and approachable. This will please a wide audience. Pair with beef stew or meat pizza. Tasted Dec 2019. www.thewineloverskitchen.com
Wine grapes for 181 Merlot are sourced from the Lodi Valley. Made in Bordeaux style with minty, savoury herb, toasted oak and black cherry aromas on the nose. Vine stock for 181 comes from Pomerol, Bordeaux. Look for rich and ripe blueberry, dark plum, chocolate and vanilla flavours on the palate. Easy to love. - Community Wine Reviews
