From Sicily, Tenute Nicosia Vulkà Etna 2018 is produced from a blend of sustainably grown 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% Nerello Cappuccio wine grapes. Look for pink florals, red berry, cherry, spicy, nutty and mineral flavours with a citrus zest finish balanced with vibrant acidity. Tannins are chewy. Drink or hold.

Food pairings: roast duck, goose, gourmet burgers, BBQ pork ribs.

Reviews and Ratings

Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A beautifully bright ruby coloured Red made from a blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio. On the nose, black cherry, strawberry jam with dried eucalyptus notes and hints of baking spices, wet stone, vanilla bean, orange zest, and smoke.  Juicy, dry, and medium bodied on the palate with velvety tannins, tart acidity, and notes of  black cherry, cranberry, strawberry, and smoke. Pleasant and easy drinking.

Wine-Food pairing: I paired my glass with a steak which worked well. Try also with tomato based pasta or with salty aged Italian cheese.

Tasted May 2022.
Trent Mayers rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This lighter bodied red from Sicily will do the trick if you are looking for a versatile, food friendly red for your weekend dinner. The vineyards are on the volcanic soil on the slopes of Mount Etna and the grapes used are native to Sicily: Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio. The resulting wine is firmly in the red fruit territory with tart red cherry and plum with some earth in the background. It reminds me more than a little of a Pinot Noir. Serve it with any of pasta dish with tomato sauce (rigatoni with braised pork is highly recommended).
