Reviews and Ratings

Alana L rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Tasted at the ‘Sustainable South Africa’ wine tasting event organized by @wosa_ca, we loved ‘The Owl Post’ from Neethlingshof estate The Short Story Collection. For the story part, the estate in Stellenbosch takes its name from its original owner from the 19th century Lord Neethling. The Short Story Collection is their reserve collection and the limited edition wines in the collection each focus on a specific aspect of the estate’s philosophy or history. Made exclusively from hand-picked grapes, The Owl Post is a single-vineyard Pinotage and aims to draw attention to the estate’s natural pest management program that forms part of the winery’s focus on production integrity to reduce its dependence on pesticides. Owl posts have been placed strategically throughout the vineyards to encourage natural predation and attracting these beautiful nocturnal birds to the estate, encouraging biodiversity and naturally restoring balance to the estate.

In terms of the wine, it has an intense dark red colour and more oak in the bouquet than in taste. It has a rich and smooth palate, with notes of vanilla, white pepper and a slight smokiness that we found both distinctive and appealing. A complex and warm wine perfect for fall chillier weather, would pair wonderfully with red meat dishes, casseroles and evenings in front of the fireplace!

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
