Natalie's Score: 87/100

Founded in 1874, this winery ages its wines in oak for a minimum of three years with at least 18 months in French oak barrels. Full-bodied, chunky and hulking with black raspberries, smoke. It's tannic so decant for 1-2 hours. A little pricey but you get those alluring mature notes of leather and cigar box that are so suited to lazy evenings dozing by the fire.

Tempranillo food pairings: grilled steak, duck, Mexican dishes, eggplant parmigiana, green peppers.

Reviews and Ratings

Dan Trcka Wine Blogger rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

The 2006 Montecillo Reserva from the general section is medium bodied, with nice aromas of integrated raspberry, coconut, oak and black pepper and vanilla spices. Tannins are refined (decant for 15 to 30 min) and the finish is long and smooth and silky. It is at its prime and should retain its complexity for another 5 years. My impression: BEAUTIFUL, 91 pts - a well crafted wine that I would highly recommend. Tasted Jan/11.
Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Dark purple in colour. Ripe berries and oak on the nose and palate, with a touch of vanilla from the oak arriving in the later stages. I'm 88 on this wine. (ottawwinejournal.com)
