Don't look for a huge amount of fruit on this full-bodied Monticello 2009 Gran Reserva. This is a mature red with more savoury flavours of dried herbs, leather dried cherry and balsamic flavours on the palate. Smoky, elegant, drink soon.

Food pairings: roast beef, grilled beef long ribs, smoked brisket.

Reviews and Ratings

Jenny Ratcliffe-Wright CWM rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

The beauty of a Gran Reserva is that is has been pre aged and is ready to drink. I love the fact that the 09 is the current release so it's a treat to find aromas of leather and library, caramel and nuts with a floral potpourri note. The palate is very much alive with grippy tannins layered with spice, baked pudding, tea leaves and chocolate. Pair it simply with Spanish ham and some black salty olives. @wrightwineblog
Carolyn Hetke rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This Rioja is commendably fresh and clean ten years in with fresh cherry and raspberry fruit on the nose. Fruitis still showing on the palate that is well integrated and silky at this point. Very fine tannins and a long finish. This is a delight in the glass from start to finish (particularly since we are often guilty of drinking our Riojas too early). Good value. Serve with patatas bravas, or charcuterie. Tasted October 2019. www.thewineloverskitchen.com
Monticello 2009 Gran Reserva is a full-bodied Rioja red with dark cherry compote, ripe black fruit and smoke from toasty oak on the palate. Enjoy now and for the next five years. - Community Wine Reviews
