Middle Earth Winery was established originally more than half a century ago as a dairy farm and in 1996 the owners converted to grape farming and launched their first wine in 2012. Middle Earth 2017 is a nod to JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, which was filmed in beautiful New Zealand. And why wouldn't you name a wine after this epic movie that has since generated an estimated $100 million extra revenue in tourism? But the wine is lovely, with softy grassy, herbal, white grapefruit flavours on the palate, softly spiced finishing with a good length and amazingly zesty. Chill and enjoy now with grilled shellfish.

Sauvignon Blanc food pairings: chicken and sage skewers, fresh tomato and basil salad, Thai green curry fish, fresh oysters on the half shell with lemon and horseradish.

From Winelord Ltd., Middle-Earth 2017 is a dry and zesty Sauvignon Blanc from Nelson, South Island. White melon and lemongrass aromas on the nose with ripe apple, lemon zest and grapefruit notes on the palate matched with vibrant acidity. This wine is named for JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, which was filmed in beautiful New Zealand (and has since generated an estimated $100 million extra revenue in tourism as a result). Middle-Earth Vineyards was established originally more than half a century ago as a dairy farm. In 1996, the owners converted to grape farming and launched their first wine in 2012. Chill and enjoy now with Po-Tay-To Onion Soup. - Community Wine Reviews
