This French red wine is made from Syrah with a splash of Viognier grapes to lift the mid-palate. This Southern Rhône wine is dry and savoury, made from vines that the winemaker called "the Pillars." A smooth, supple almost full-bodied southern French red wine. Violets and black currant aromas. Good acidity and balanced structure. Pair with grilled lamb.

Syrah food pairings: rare roast beef, spice-braised lamb, cheddar, grilled pork chops.

Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Tasty and well made Costières de Nîmes (a Southern Rhône appellation with growing appeal for inexpensive and concentrated wines).
This wine is mostly Shiraz, with a splash of Viognier. Adding a white in small doses to a red (at the right time of the winemaking process) does not dilute the wine. It will actually held adjust and retain the deep colour. It also adds some complexity and spice.
In this wine, we see pretty colour (deep ruby and purple) and terrific aromatics for the price.
Curramt jam, mulberry, plum, and cracked pepper are pretty abundant. There is also some smoke, vanilla, and cedar bough from the oak.
The wine is rather soft and approachable now. Give it maybe 20 minutes to breathe and open up.
There is some lovely licorice and full bodied fruit that come out with a bit of patience. It definitely males a way better impression this way.
Put this wine with osso buco, mushroom soup, and maybe fried onion. Drink in the next three years.
Stephen Andrews reviewed this wine as follows:

Tasted June 7, 2018. Colour dense dark red purple. Legs medium thick. Aromas and flavours of, blackberry jam, blueberry, sweet tobacco, bacon. Hint of leather. Taste dry plus, full bodied, dark fruit, expressive tannin, mouthwatering with a long black fruit finish. This is what I call a big flavour red. I would want to pair it with Peking Duck in Hoisin sauce. Other suggesting, lamb, goose, cured meats, and BBQ ribs.
Good value.
Michel Gassier Les Piliers (2015) is a well-priced Syrah (with a splash of Viognier wine grapes) from the Costières de Nîmes, Rhône wine region. This Southern Rhône wine is dry, plushy and savoury, made from vines that the winemaker called "the Pillars". Drink now and for the next eight years. Pair with a braised beef brisket. - Community Wine Reviews
