Terrific black fruit aromas and espresso notes on the nose and palate of this southern Italian red wine made from Sicily's iconic red wine grape Nero d'Avola. Some anise and pepper on the finish. Lushly weighted and fulsome with lots of layers of pleasure. Pair with grilled chicken or roast beef.

Nero D'avola food pairings: slow-roasted rump roast with root vegetables, herbed chicken, brisket.

Reviews and Ratings

Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Sensational offering from Mazzei, this Nero d'Avola features aromas and flavours of fresh and dried black briars, licorice, crushed slate, cedar, herbs, and dark chocolate. Tough pegging this wine to Sicilian terroir, but who cares. 91 Points. (www.ottawawinejournal.com)
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Made from 100% Nero d’Avola, aged 10 mos in small oak barrels. Dark garnet with aromatic plums, spice, and peppery touch on nose. Palate is very plummy, with bitter almonds and savoury notes. Good acidity, tannins a bit tight, so decant 45 minutes. Pair with pork tenderloin.
