Blackened fruit, toasty oak, tar, graphite, smoke and anise. Lots of acidity for a tangy tomato or meat sauce. Full-bodied with a good finish. Made from Oseleta and Corvina grapes from vines planted in volcanic tufa soils.

Valpolicella Classico Superiore food pairings: grilled lamb chops, barbeque beef long ribs, slow-braised pork shoulder roast.

Reviews and Ratings

Masi Toar 2013 is a Valpolicella Classico Superiore from the Veneto wine region. In the glass, the wine is deep ruby with violet hues. Look for ripe plums, dark cherry flavours on the palate. Tannins are soft and good acidity for food. Pair with grilled game sausage and moderately aged cheeses. The red blend for this full-bodied red is made from traditional Valpolicella wine grapes: Corvina, Rondinella, Oseleta. Oseleta is a native Veronese secondary grape variety know for its great ability to colour and give structure to the wine. Rediscovered by Masi in the 1980s, it was first used in the Veronese blend in 1990, giving birth to Toar. - Community Wine Reviews
