Smoke and earth on the nose of this wine, not fruit forward. Lots of acidity in this robust Spanish red wine with black fruit, tar and a pleasantly bitter finish. One of the better-known producers of Rioja on a large scale. Decant 1-2 hours. Pair with roast lamb.

Reviews and Ratings

Lori Kilmartin WSET3 - WSET3 Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Fairly aromatic wine with the oak notes predominant. Leather, smoke and some dark fruit. Balanced acidity and tannins. Lacks a bit of depth. Long oaky finish. Pair with some braised beef - maybe use a bit in the braising liquid! Tasted March 13, 2017.
Pamela Chiles rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Jammy blackberry, spice, licorice, smoke, full-bodied with sandy tannins. A little more acidity needed to perk it up. Try this Rioja with a rich beef or lamb stew.
