Natalie's Score: 90/100

Good balance with black cherry aromas and flavours but not overly sweet. Medium-bodied and smooth and a fair price for this quality, especially for Pinot Noir, which is always expensive because it's so difficult to grow. Produced by Ernest & Julio Gallo, this Californian Pinot Noir offers the balance that's the signature of the Sonoma region. Offers notes of sage, black raspberry and spice. Polished tannins.

Pinot Noir food pairings: roast duck in port wine sauce, veal chops, grilled duck sausages, pork tenderloin.

Reviews and Ratings

Mary Anne van Gaal rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

The Russian River Valley produces some of my favourite wines and this Pinot does not disappoint. Aromas of dark cherry fill the nose followed by a mouthful of subtle spice, berries, and plum. A smooth finish completes this terrific wine. I would enjoy it with pork tenderloin and even roast turkey.
Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Wonderful example of a well done Pinot from the Russian River Valley - beautiful, bright ruby color in the glass with aromas of cherry, vanilla, and baking spices jumping out of the glass. Leather, toasted cherry and raspberry on the palate - smooth finish. Tasted on April 3/16.
Bill Wright Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Nose of tart cherries. Great acid and nice subtle berries. A medium tart finish.
Tasted April 3/16
Donna Hargrove rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

As typical of Pinot Noirs, this is a light clear red in colour, which makes the cherry nose a bit of a surprise. Followed by the full flavour of plum and spice on the tongue. This is going to be a favourite of mine, I can already tell!

Lynn van der Linde - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Bright ruby in the glass, notes of cherry, vanilla, baking spices and a hint of earthiness, balanced acidity and enough lasting cherry flavours to pair perfectly with rustic pizza or light pasta dishes.
Tasted on 3 April 2016.
Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Tart cherry aromas with some raspberry, dried leaves, and a touch of spice. The taste is a quiet strawberry and raspberry with very little tannins and great acidity.
Courtney Flood rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Oak-dominated pinot noir from California; very smoky, toffee, plum, blackberry, blueberry, vanilla. Dried fruit. Nutmeg.
Sylvain Segard rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Bright ruby. Intense red cherry aroma with some plum, vanilla, soft oak and mild spices. Medium plus acidity, integrated tannins, and medium long spicy cherry finish.
Alex & Priya - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 83/100 with the following review:

Alex: Bright strawberry-raspberry fruit, some birch bark, cinnamon and vanilla. Gentle, satiny palate, fruity but woody in the end, without much flavour on the finish. Not my type. 83pts
This Pinot Noir hails from one of California's cool climate regions in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma which creates the balance in the wine from cool nights. The original MacMurray homestead was settled 150 years ago. - Community Wine Review
