Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

Dark garnet red with viscous legs and a full, aromatic nose with fresh raspberries & cherries, forest floor, woody notes, vanilla and cinnamon. Delicious palate of ripe red cherries, forest elements, spices, hints of mint and fennel, well-integrated oak and slight leather. Satiny harmonious mouthfeel and a long delicious finish. A wine to savour slowly. Will age for decades. Remarkable value here.
Produced by Quinta da Pellada in the Portuguese wine region of Dão. Owner Alvaro Castro, his daughter Maria, vintner Luis Lopes, and winemaking consultant, Ataide Semedo, made this wine from grapes grown on old vines planted near Alvaro's family's 16th-century home at Quinta da Pellada. The 2011 vintage was a blend of Jaen and Touriga Nacional grapes. - Community Wine Reviews
