Grippy firm tannins on the palate with this robust Italian red wine made from the Sangiovese grape. The wine was aged 12 months in oak barrels. Needs cellar time. Aromas of black fruit and toasty oak. Pair with grilled meats.

Food pairings: meatlover's pizza, spaghetti and meatballs, aged cheeses.

Reviews and Ratings

Rebecca Meir-Liebman - Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

It is hard to find wines offering this high level of quality from Umbria, but this one definitely delivers, and is excellent for its price point. This Sangiovese blend has an attractive nose with generous notes of black fruits, licorice, and leather. It’s full-bodied, and its medium-acidity balances well with the fruitiness and body of the wine. Its good, lingering finish is redolent of cherries. It’s refined, and the kind of wine most will enjoy.
Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This 2010 vintage is from Lungarotti. It has a very alluring deep garnet colour with bricking elements. Multi dimensional and layered aromas of cassis, herbs, smoke and salty ash. Flavours unveil figs, prunes, stony minerals, leathery smoked paprika. Full bodied and incredibly flavourful with velvety, inviting tannins and long, robust finish with some lingering heat. Good to match with grilled thin crust pizza and sundried tomatoes. 90 points - tasted May 2018
Lungarotti Monticchio Rubesco Torgiano Rosso Riserva 2010 is an elegant, lean and silky Sangiovese and Canaiolo from the Monticchio vineyard in Umbria. Wine grapes were fermented in stainless steel tank and the blend was aged in French oak barrique for one year prior to bottling and then bottle-aged for several years. Pair with roast quail stuffed with wild mushrooms, or aged cheeses. The bottle label is a bas-relief depicting the harvest, detail from the Fontana Maggiore of Perugia, one of Italy’s most beautiful 13th-Century fountains. - Community Wine Reviews
