Natalie's Score: 92/100

This Spanish red wine is made mostly (95%) from the classic Rioja grape Tempranillo and well as a splash (5%) of Graciano. The vines are an average age of 40 years old. The wine spent 18 months in French and American oak. This is an elegant wine with a long life ahead of this. Gorgeous aromas of dark red fruit and leather on the palate. There's still a firm tannic grip here mid-palate so be sure to decant for an hour, or better yet, give this baby some cellar time.

Reviews and Ratings

Marco Giovanetti rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Ripe black fruit, spices with notes of bounty chocolate. In the mouth, full body, very structured with a good grippy tannic profile. Perfumed black fruit with a nice floral undertones. A tannic finale showing quite the promise in the cellar. Dark chocolate aftertaste.
Courtney Flood rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

My oh my I love my Spanish reds! You can feel the warm sunshine when you breathe in the succulent ripe plums and blackberries, vanilla, spicy cinnamon and nutmeg wrapped in perfumed eucalyptus. Palate is rich and fruity, full-bodied, ripe and long lasting. I think this is a nice one to savor in a quiet room with and good book.
Mary Anne van Gaal rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

The rich red colour of this wine foreshadows the full flavours of oak, cloves, leather and ripe plums. It's full bodied with a long, spicy finish. This would be great with a roast beef or dark chocolate!
Sean O'Regan - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Oct 5, 2014: Deep ruby, nose showing ripe cherry/berry fruit with American oak influence giving way to chocolate, coconut, baking spice and oxo cube notes. Medium full body, good intensity and concentration of flavour repeating the nose. Great balance with good acidity and fine drying tannins, this is a solid value wine that should have a good 10yrs of life ahead. A nice choice for beef tenderloin with grilled cherry tomatoes.
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Dark red fruit, plum, baking spice, leather, and balsam notes on the nose. Repeat on the palate. Well integrated tannins with a refreshing acidity make this a terrific wine to enjoy with roast beef or grilled lamb. Terrific value wine. Tasted October 2014. 91 points. Matt Steeves @QuercusVino
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Smoky and rich wine with deep red berry flavours, raisin, prune, spice and smoke. Dried rich berry flavour and spice on the palate. Would be fantastic with lamb, but I loved it on its own.
Martha Kelly AIWS - CS rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This Rioja Reserva has complex flavours of both red and dark fruit, sweet and pungent spice, toast, nuts, truffles, and savoury notes. The wine refreshes while still holding its tannic grip. The intense flavours linger on the long, warming finish.
Pair with pasta in tomato/mushroom sauce or with grilled meats. This wine will benefit from decanting.
Drink now or cellar until 2019.
Date tasted: November 2014.
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Very fragrant deep purple/garnet 95% Tempranillo 5% Graciano blend, giving dark red berries ,leather, cloves and cedar on the nose. Full-bodied palate with ripe dark cherries, cedar, leather, spicy touches of cloves and fennel. Long, spicy cherry finish. Quintessential roast lamb match.
Terry Jeans - Certified S rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

From one of leading areas of Spain, this wine has some great rich, red fruit aromas with leather and spice. The juicy mouth feel has some complex flavours of dark red fruit, cedar and leather balanced with good acidity and tannins. A great pairing with some meaty tapas.
Valérie Dufour - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Beautiful nose of red cherries and grind coffee.
Very well made Rioja. Solid. Complex. Long. Powerful.
Like an uppercut.
Would be great with a leg of lamb.
Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Aromas of cedar, spices, and balsam fir, tar, and a touch of strawberry. The taste is a subdued version of the aroma, with perhaps a touch of raspberry, but still much more oak than fruit. There' some slightly grippy tannins. A very intersting wine that would be great with a pork rast with a balsamic vinegar marinade.
Alice Kubicek rated this wine as 85/100 with the following review:

Deep ruby colour, blackberries and black cherries, stewed fruit and black olives prominent on the nose. Hints of vanilla and
capsicum pepper introduce a pleasant spiciness on the palate with, tasting of mixed berries, prunes and raisins. The tannins are stalky and the acids lively; the finish is long and pleasant. A fine complement to roast lamb or pork, savoury sauces and full-flavoured cheeses.
