From the Rheingau wine region, Leitz Berg Schlossberg 2019 Riesling is produced from vines in a combination of red clay slate and quartzite soils. The red slate colouring is the result of the iron content in the slate that oxidized to iron oxide. The remaining thin layer of soil is very stony and not capable of holding a quantity of water and the dense, clay subsoil makes it difficult and demanding for the vines to take hold. With water stress and high solar radiation levels on a 45% slope, vines react by reducing the number and size of the grapes, producing low yields and grapes with intense flavours. Look for rich, ripe stone fruit, mango, slatey, mineral and citrus zest flavours mouth-watering on the palate and very long on the finish. Drink or hold.

Riesling Trocken food pairings: brunch dishes, quiche, cheese fondue, pork tenderloin en croute.
