Mocha dark chocolate melts into plush plums and fleshy blackberries on the nose and palate of this robust Argentine red wine made from Malbec grapes. Layer Cake is named to honour winemaker Jayson Woodbridge’s grandfather who observed that when it’s properly made, wine “is like a great layer cake.” Some espresso and vanilla smoke on the finish. Pair with gourmet hamburgers (and layer on the fixins).

Malbec food pairings: grilled steak, barbecued back ribs, meat pizza.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This Malbec from Argentina's Mendoza region has a great story behind the name. The winemaker's grandfather described the soil where vines grow as being like a layer cake and said that if properly made, the wine would reflect this, with layers of fruit, mocha and chocolate, hints of spice and very rich. The fragrant nose of this Malbec displays all these aromas, led by cassis, Damson plums and mocha, then the rich palate follows through with a fruity and flavourful finish. This would be a great gift wine.
