Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This Beaujolais Cru is said to have taken its name from Julius Caesar, who was stationed there. It is also possible it was named for Julian the Apostate, who was a lesser Caesar who scored several major military victories over the invading Goths on France's eastern frontier.
This is a wine woth a lot of concentrated fruit and structure.
It's glasscoating ruby/purple. It was probably fermented in whole clusters to maximize fruit expression.
Wonderful florality and a serious zing of blackberry and currant. Peony, rose, and pot pourri.
The flavours are juicy, satisfying, and rich for a Beaujolais.
The vines in this appellation are grown in 'rotten rock,' which is the local term for decomposing granite (similar to soil in Casablanca, Chile but blue and pink). The height of the Cru on the plateau at the top of the Saone rover graben lends the grapes are concentration and aromatics.
Put this wonderfully fragrant wine with laschinken, bbq trout, and maybe a summer salad with goat cheese and blueberries.
Laurent Perrachon Roche Bleue Juliénas (2015) is made by the Perrachon family noted in wine history as far back as 1601. The family domaine is based in Juliénas but also has vineyard holdings in 5 other Beaujolais Crus: Morgon, Moulin-à-Vent, Fleurie, Chenas, and Saint-Amour. Roche Bleue is made from 100% Gamay grown on schist, granite, and clay soils from vines that average 40 years of age. Pair this Cru Beaujolais with coq au vin. - Community Wine Reviews

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
