Reviews and Ratings

Emilie Ryan rated this wine as 85/100 with the following review:

If you like Meritage (Bordeaux-style blends), you’ll enjoy this one. If you don’t like this style, or if you prefer blends with Cabernet Sauvignon, then skip this wine. I like Merlot and Cabernet Franc, so it was right up my alley…

Name: Lailey Vineyard Meritage
Vintage: 2009
Producer: Lailey Vineyard
Region/country: Niagara River, Canada
Grape varietal(s): 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc
Consumed: at home
Recommended by: Winemaker

Appearance: Dark red with slight orange tint on the edges.
Nose: Earthy, bacon.
Taste: Tannic, even after a one-hour decant. This isn’t a sipping wine, but it paired nicely with steak topped with blue cheese (try it, it’s delicious!) and grilled vegetables (red onions, baby potatoes with garlic).
Finish: There is a slight acidic aftertaste. I wonder if it has already peaked…

Overall impression: A good old-world style Meritage. Not fruit forward. Another good wine from one of my favourite Niagara wineries.
Rating: 85/100
Value: 4 out of 5.

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
