Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

A good value wine that the LCBO gives us routinely. Cabernet and Sangiovese blend. There is a dash of Merlot in this release too. It sees a whole year in French barriques and then another year in the cellar to soften.
Ruby-red, with some bricking.
Aromas of fig, cherry, underbrush, dried herbs, woth some firm oak peeking through.
Youthful tasting for a wine with almost half a decade behind it. Lots of cherry and red fruit. Some plumminess, but lots of acidity and structure. Medium bodied - approaching full bodied. Raspberry and cigar on the finish.
Ideal for rabbit stew, but interesting enough to serve to guests with charcuterie and assorted cheeses.
San Gimignano is better known as one of Tuscany's only designated DOCG zones for white wines, but this proves that good reds are made there too. It makes it a bit of a rarity and one worth exploring.
La Torre Guinzano San Gimignano Rosso (2013) is a red wine blend of 70% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot matured 12 months in French oak and a further 12 months in bottle prior to its release. On the nose, this medium-bodied red wine is red berries, cherries and savory herb. This is a well-priced, food-friendly red under $20 from the Tuscany wine region. - Community Wine Reviews
