Natalie's Score: 93/100

A robust Rioja red wine blend of 80% Tempranillo and Grenache from the winery's new vineyards in the village of Tudelilla, La Pedriza. Rich and plush with ripe dark plum, dark cherry, fine herbs, ginger, anise, cinnamon spice flavours on the plate from oak treatment. Very nice now and for the next five years. Pair with an equally rich roast of pork.

Food pairings: beef stroganoff, barbecued ribs, fruit chutneys, cassoulet, steak fajitas.

Reviews and Ratings

Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

This is a blockbuster Rioja from a warmer vintage. There’s a purity of fruit, yet much denser than the 2008. There’s ripe black cherry, mulberry, raspberry, wild blueberry, Saskatoon berry, wood, patchouli, Asian spices, fresh and dried flowers, citrus rind, fresh tobacco, and a hint of sarsaparilla. 94 Points. Unreal.
Linda Mertes WSET 2 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A blend of Tempranillo with 20% Granacha, this wine comes from the Rioja Oriental area of northern Spain. Aged and full-bodied, the aromas are floral and spicy. The acidity of the wine will pair with red meat, lamb, firm fish and aged cheeses.
From the Rioja wine region, La Rioja Alta Viña Ardanza Reserva 2009 is fragrant with ripe cherry, plum, anise and sweet spice aromas on the nose. Satiny elegant on the palate and beautifully balanced. From a warm vintage and plushy. Enjoy now and for the next five years. - Community Wine Reviews
