Natalie's Score: 88/100

A medium-bodied red wine with aromas and flavours of tart cherries and cranberries. Mouth-watering and juicy. This red wine is a blend of three of the winery's estate vineyards, including Closson, Benway and Foxtail. Each parcel of grapes was matured separately in French oak barrels for 1 year. This wine needs food: feed it roast chicken for starters.

Reviews and Ratings

Philippe Perreault - Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Clear ruby color.

Aromas of cherry, cranberry, spice and oak.

The wine is round, medium-bodied and long.

Try it with a grilled chicken sandwich.

Serve it at 15-16degrees.

Ready to drink but can be aged 3-4 years.
WINEMAKING NOTE: The 2012 Portage Pinot Noir was grown from premium Prince Edward County vineyards, each harvested, processed and aged individually. The grapes were hand harvested and gently destemmed, before being fermented in small lots in the cellar. Following fermentation the wine was gravity flowed to French oak barrels, 40% of which were new. The wine remained in barrel for ten months, at which time the final blend was decided upon. Following settling and coarse filtration, the wine was bottled in September of 2013.
TASTING NOTE: Ripe strawberry, raspberry and blackberry aromas lead the way on the nose, with hints of sweet spice and tomato leaf in the background. The palate is agreeably lean and silky smooth, with very fine tannin and great County acidity. Freshly crushed berries are the center of attention again, with dried leaf, minerality and spice in the background.
