A juicy, spicy and full-bodied Australian red wine made from the Shiraz grape and named in honour of the winery’s faithful dog, Jimmy. Lovely Aussie shiraz with black fruit, generous oak and full-bodied heft. Some mint and pepper on the finish. The Down-Underdog is the second-label Shiraz from Hugh Hamilton winery, and among a pack of playful per names such as “The Villain,” “The Scoundrel,” and “Jekyll & Hyde.” Pair with gourmet burgers.

Shiraz food pairings: lamb cutlets with pepperade and goat cheese, hamburgers, pizza, black bean soup, beef.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Blackcurrant, plums, repeated on palate with balanced spice and polished tannins.
Tasted April 2017
Love the name of this South Australian McLaren Vale wine. Jim Jim The Down-Underdog (2014) is so named after the winery’s faithful dog, Jimmy. The dog was half Lab and half Australian sheep dog and seemed to know when the Shiraz grapes for this wine were ripe. Jimmy has passed on, but his legacy remains in this lovely ripe, rich and intense black-fruited Aussie Shiraz with black fruit, generous oak and full-bodied weight. - Community Wine Reviews
