Reviews and Ratings
Allison & Chris Wallace rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: Apples and a hint of petroleum come through with a surprising amount of body for this varietal. Its warm climate characteristics come through in spades: this is no 11% Mosel! But the style works as there is enough juicy acidity to match the intensity of the fruit.
Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: The Florita is balanced in every way with its lemon, lime and mineral flavours, mouth coating, but with clean, delineated fruit flavours, a touch of flint met with fresh acidity and a long, lingering finish. Amazing alone or with a Pad Thai
Brent Gushowaty rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: Eye: Pale lemon, clear. Nose: Lime/citrus/orange peel and some petrol. Palate: Mineral, lime peel, tart acidity, quite lean with fabulous minerality. Well balanced with complex citrus notes including orange and a medium long aftertaste. A distinctive Riesling. Mymi Thesingingsommelier - Sommelier, FWS rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: Jim Barry Wines is a family winery based in the Clare Valley of South Australia. The company was founded in 1959 by Jim and Nancy Barry and is now owned and managed by Peter Barry, a second generation family winemaker. Jim was the first qualified winemaker in the Clare Valley, graduating as the 17th student to gain a Degree in Oenology at the famous Roseworthy Agricultural College in 1947. His son Peter followed in his footstep and graduated from the same program in 1985. In 2010, Peter ’son Tom graduated from the University of Adelaide Waite Campus (formally Roseworthy Agricultural Collage) making the Barry’s the first family owned winery in Australia to have three generations of Roseworthy/Waite graduates. Jim Barry Wines’ philosophy to winemaking is very simple: own the vineyards to develop the best fruit flavors possible and retain these flavors during winemaking. This wine comes from the Florita vineyard, a seventy five acre block established one mile south of the Watervale township near Clare. It was purchased in 1986 by Jim Barry’s sons but since Leo Buring first registered ‘The Florita’ trademark in 1946, they were forced to wait to name the vineyard as such, until 2004 when they finally procured it. In the glass, it is the palest silvery yellow. On the nose, it is zesty with herbal aromas, wet rose petals and a hint of clover honey. On the palate, it is totally dry, full of lemon and lime zest, a little almond extract and honey. Refreshing acidity and a persistent citrusy finish. Delicious now but as Peter Barry said, it will continue to age beautifully for another 30 to 40 years! A wonderful sipper or enjoy with a Thai green mango/papaya and giant shrimp salad!
Alex & Priya - Certified Sommelier reviewed this wine as follows: Priya: Tastes less Riesling and more dry Vouvray, with a different smell of rubber and medical gloves. Very lemony and crisp, with lots of acidity. Great for summer bbq's! 89 pts Alex: Great intense nose, with plenty of lemon peel, peach and flinty minerality. Little but present petrol. Fresh and concentrated, not as austere and limey as many Clare Valley rieslings normally are...long, searing and mineral finish with tantalizing mid-palate concentration. Excellent. 91 pts
Dianne Fisher - Sommelier, ISG reviewed this wine as follows: This riesling is bone dry and austere with characteristics of minerality. Only 2.8g/rs and will develop for may years to come developing notes of marmalade. Pair with dishes accented with flavours of chili and coriander.
