Reviews and Ratings

Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

From Jackson-Triggs’s Niagara Peninsula Estate and winemaker Marco Piccolo comes a uniquely made VQA Merlot. After being aged in French and American oak barrels, it’s then further aged in Kentucky Bourbon barrels for an additional 10 months. Medium red colour with a garnet brick hue Aromas of cherry, blackcurrant, earth, wet leather, vanilla, toast and granite. Flavours show cherry compote, sweet smoke, marshmallow, with lingering leathery spicy heat and a hint of maple. Medium plus acidity, body and robust tannins give this medium plus bodied wine a full, robust structure. This is perfect for char grilled steak and Portobello mushrooms. - tasted May 2021
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Full bodied and tons of flavour. Aromas of black plum and cherry along with mocha and vanilla. Full bodied, smooth on the palate, and tons of ripe berry notes, along with more of vanilla and mocha along with hints of cedar smoke. Acidity is bright and balances all those rich flavours. Enjoy with smoked BBQ ribs.
Winemaker's Note - Our Merlot was first aged in French and American oak. It was then aged for an additional 10 months in small batch Kentucky bourbon barrels. Food Pairing: Our Bourbon Barrel Aged Merlot is perfectly complimented when served with a structured meat like venison, or a pasta in a rich marinara sauce with pancetta and mushrooms. Also an ideal pairing for cheeses like Cheddar, Parmesan, Havarti and Provolone.
