Reviews and Ratings

Daniel O'Keefe rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Tasted pre-release January 2018. A combination of Pinot Noir clones 828, 115, and 777. Hand-harvested and double-sorted before destemming, crushing, cold soak, and fermentation. Favourable aging in premium new and seasoned French oak barrels.

Intense purple colour with a reddish hue at the edges. Young and tight, brimming with potential, but already sharing some of its secrets. The nose is treated to soft rose petal, briar, and cranberry. Balanced acidity, impressive for Pinot Noir grown in the extremely hot and dry 2016 vintage experienced in Niagara. Tannins have just a bit of edgy grip that will relax by the time Summer rolls around. Body, like the acidity, brilliantly kept in check despite the intense heat of the vintage. Ripe and fruity finish with hints of minerality. Lay this one down until the end of salmon season/beginning of duck season in the Autumn and serve with either if you have a good day in the woods or on the water. Equally delectable with Portobello Wellingtons.
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Icellars 2016 Pinot Noir, 150 cases total production from the Icel (estate) Vineyard in beautiful Niagara-on-the-Lake. Inviting sweet spice box aromas with fresh herbs, plum, and cherry notes showing the complexity of the wine from this special vineyard that has been producing nothing short of exceptional wines with each vintage. The palate shows spicy plum, dark cherry, with soft fine tannins that coat the palate while the refreshing acidity provides that impeccable structure to this beautifully balanced Pinot. Terrific on its own, it's also well suited to complement a wide range of dishes from grilled lamb, pork, or Atlantic salmon with fresh dill. Drink 2018-2024. Tasted October 2018. 92 points.
