Hester Creek’s 2016 Syrah-Viognier is a gorgeous, full-bodied BC red wine blend. The Syrah is co-fermented with a a splash of Viognier to lift the mid-palate with some florals. Aromas of wild violets, smoke, vanilla spice and fleshy black cherry. The wine is aged for 15 months in 60% American and 40% French oak barrels. Pair it with roast beef or lamb.

Reviews and Ratings

Luc Delorme rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

The secondary aromas of smoke and leather are front and certes in this wine, overtaking the more subdued primary characteristics of black plums. Very smooth and balanced, this expertly-crafter wine starts off with smoke and plums and pepper and culminates in a long finish of caramel that goes on for a long, long time.

The wine does not feel overly tannic or bright, and has a pleasant roundness in the mouth. The price reflects the care and effort that went into its creating.
Wineboy rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Beautifully aromatic as the Shiraz aromas piggy-back on the Viognier aromatics. Lovely berry purity with accents of pepper spice and herbs. Full richness without being massive. A bit of tannins that could use a bit of aging but I'd be tempted to drink this one sooner with a rarer cut of red meat.
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Loved this blend from the Okanagan Valley 2016 vintage. Well balanced, complex, elegant, dry, integrating nicely. Silky smooth, full bodied, medium tannins, medium acidity. Big mocha, ripe blueberry, ripe blackberry, baking spices. Pairs well with a charcuterie platter of equal complexity. Tasted 2016 in Nov 2018. 92 points
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Lovely! Aromas of blueberry, cassis, white pepper, leather and smoke. Bright acidity on the palate, with lots of ripe fruit and some peppery spice on the palate. Quite a lengthy finish. Enjoy with prime rib.
Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This tastes like a lean Cornas. Lots of red and black briar, glycerine, white pepper, plum skin, warm spice, liquorice, and vanilla. Needs a couple years to come together and lose a bit of the baby fat. 91 Points.
Samer Forzley rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

On the nose: Blueberry, plum, oak, baking spice, pine, pencil shavings, graphite, pepper

On the pallet: Cherry, Blueberry, Blueberry jam, plums, coffer, cedar, pepper.

A great big w.ine, long finish with black pepper lingering. Well balanced and will pair well with game meat or lamb
Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

An awesome Syrah with a touch of Viognier blend. Juicy and big from Okanagan Valley Hester Creek. Medium ruby coloured with a layered bouquet consisting of blackberry, cassis, white pepper, dried bay leaves and smoked paprika. Flavours reflect much of this with blackberry, juicy red plums and strawberries. Finely ground pepper spice continued into the back on the medium plus finish. Acidity is high, with a full body and velvety tannins. Pair with rare pepper steak or stuffed spicy peppers. 90 points - tasted November 18, 2018
Pamela Chiles rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Hester Creek makes this in "traditional Rhone style", mostly Syrah with some Viognier. Find black currant/cassis, black cherry, soft spice, vanilla, leather, great black pepper overtones, fine seam of acidity and velvety tannins. Drink now or lay down for a year or two. Would be delicious with a rich beef stew. Tasted November 2018
Courtney Flood rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Very intense and inky wine. Campfire smoke, jerky, tar slightly overpower the fruity aromas of plum, fig. Toffee backnote. Pair with cured meats, sausage.
Simon Chen rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

I'm a bit turned away by the liquorice and vanilla on the initial palate. The midpalate is lean and firm with good finishing tannin though.
