Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Artezin's Old Vines Zinfandel (2014) is a big, rich, layered and full-bodied Zin blend of 85% Zinfandel, 10% Petit Sirah and 5% Carignan. All wine grapes were sustainably-farmed and sourced from family-owned vineyards in the Ukiah Valley, Mendocino County, California, and the blended wine was aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels for 15 months.

This is as deep garnet as a Zin can get. The wine is dry, but plushy and really does open itself to you in rich layers of ripe, juicy, small red berry fruit, jammy red plum, blackberry, cedarbrush, cinnamon and allspice with white pepper, long on the finish. Tannins are fine and this vintage is very approachable now, but could easily cellar for a three or more years. Although, I don't think a bottle or three would last that long in my cellar. The wine is 14.9% abv, but alcohol, fruit and acidity are so well-integrated that it is easy to have a glass, but does need food by the second glass. Pair with gourmet bison burgers with all the fixins'.

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
