This Washington red is savoury, full-bodied and has a firm grip. The 2005 vintage is a robust blend of 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 61% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. It was aged for 11 months in French, American and Hungarian oak barrels. Aromas of cedar brush, black currant and smoke. Finishes with vanilla spice and cedar brush. Decant 1-2 hours. Pair with a rare steak.

Red food pairings: lamburgers, gourmet burgers, bobotje.

Reviews and Ratings

Hedges Family Estate Red 2005 is a savoury red wine blend of 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 16% Syrah, 4% Malbec, and 3% Cabernet Franc. It was aged for 11 months in French, American and Hungarian oak barrels. The grapes for this blend were grown in Hedges Family's estate vineyards in Red Mountain. Look for fresh mulberry, plum, figgy dried fruit, leather and cedar spice flavours on this medium-plus bodied red from Washington. - Community Wine Reviews
