Chalky dry Californian red wine, with enticing aromas of dark berries and cassis. Balanced and long. Elegant, not in your face. Complex, balanced and featuring a long finish. This Californian Sauvignon Blanc is produced by a winery founded in 1981 by John Williams and Larry Turley. The grapes are dry farmed and it shows here in the depth and complexity of this wine. Pair with organic beef dishes.

Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: hearty meat dishes, hard cheese, braised pork shanks, sizzling New York strip steaks, Asian chicken salad.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

A dark garnet Cab from Napa Valley. Fragrant nose with ripe red berries, vanilla, baking spice. Wonderful complex palate shows red berry fruit, spice, mint, slight oak in a silky full-bodied mouthfeel with a lingering satiny finish. Perfect with your next prime rib.
Greg Hughes rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

This producer is a solid bet for classically styled Californian wine. That goes for their Merlot as well as their Cab. 2013 was a solid vintage across California, though the winemakers, almost unanimously, see 2014 as even better.
This wine has a nice, deep ruby colouration, with some bricking colour change at the rim.
The aromas are great, but are much more composed after breathing about 20 minutes. Initially, the aromas have a smattering of brooding oakiness that gives way to the fruit after aerating. Lots of dark berry and cherry. Dark chocolate, vanilla, pecan.
It has loads of blackberry and cherry, with a subtle vanilla/mocha accent peeking through. Cocoa dust, vanilla bean, espresso, blackberry jam, ripe cherry, and some rocky minerality. Lively acids add freshness and showcase the structure of the wine. It is full bodied, but alcohol was impressively limited to 13.8% - it has great balance. This is not your bombastic style of Napa Cab.
This wine is impressive and it's one to discuss with other wine nerds. Paired with beef tartare, it was fantastic. It would sing with most red meat, but an ideal pairing would be mushroom and lamb moussaka.
Fun fact about Frog's Leap wine: vigneron John Williams puts "open other end" on the bottom left corner of the back label... Just in case you're half in the bag and fumbling with you corkscrew.
Savoury Californian Cabernet from a well-respected organic winery. Love the sense of humour on the cork that Frog's Leap winemaker has: Time for fun when you're having flies, and ribbit on the cork. - Community Wine Reviews
