Natalie's Score: 91/100

A robust red wine with big purple and black plum aromas and flavours as well as blueberry pie notes on the finish. Smooth and supple. The fruit profile is not as raisined as it is in some Californian Zinfandels. Nonetheless, this is a juicy, pleasing red wine. Perfect for potluck gatherings featuring grilled meats.

Zinfandel food pairings: pizza, pulled pork served with crackling pigskin.

Reviews and Ratings

Craig Kuziemsky rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Blackberry, plum, spice and smoke on the nose and palate. The fruit flavors have nice complexity and the spice provides a boldness to the finish.
Nick Onischuk - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

The Frei Brothers Winery Reserve Zinfandel 2014 features aromas of plum, blackberry and spice. On the palate, this full bodied wine has a nice smooth and long finish. Tasted October 2016 (90/100)
Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Aromas of spicy dark plum, smoke, vanilla, and dark chocolate. Satin on the palate with the plums coming through in the taste, but the chocolate really shining brightly. Long, tart tannic plum finish. I'd pair with dark cheeses, although this will stand up to any flavourful red meat dish quite nicely as well.
Pamela Chiles rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

A satiny, jammy Zin showcasing the full range of black cherry-blackberry, vanilla, sweet spice and toasty oak character of a Cali Zin. Bring on the ribs!
E & J Gallo produced this Californian, robust, big purple Zinfandel that has loads of oak and tarry black fruit. The 2012 vintage is a blend of 96% Zinfandel and 4% Petite Sirah that weights in a hefty 14.6% alcohol. The wine was matured in both of French and American oak barrels. - Community Wine Reviews
