Reviews and Ratings

Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A ruby coloured Red with aromas of plum, blackberry, menthol, eucalyptus, anise, fennel, sweet spice, cedar, black olive, and hints of milk chocolate.

On the palate, it has tart plum and blackberry flavours with a touch of sweet spice and cedar and a slightly bitter finish. It is medium-bodied with gentle tannins and bright acidity. Overall, an easy drinking type of wine.

Tasted January 2019

Wine-Food Pairing: I paired mine with homemade pizza topped with Italian dried sausage, red pepper, and sharp cheese. It paired wonderfully. This wine would also pair nicely with prosciutto, dried sausage, pasta in a meat sauce, creamy cheeses, or with sharp Italian cheeses.
Sylvain Segard rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Bright garnet red. Medium intensity aromas of raspberries, sour cherries, red flowers, new leather, and white pepper. Full-bodied wine with a tart and chalky mouthfeel. Lots of tannins, but they are well rounded and soft. Long tangy finish of juicy acidity, raspberries, and sour cherries. Pairs well with pizza, pasta and meat sauce, or veal piccata. Score 87. (S.Segard, reviewed Feb. 26, 2017)
Nebbiolo is the primary red wine grape in the northern Italian region of Piedmont renowned for big wines like Barolo. Nebbiolo ripens late in the season developing complex flavours and big tannins that allow the wines to age for decades. Fontanafredda has been making wine for more than 155 years. The wine was fermented in steel casks, then matured in oak barrels. Pair with a rich calzone. - Community Wine Reviews
